Research on titles - Legally blonde

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUbD-rHSQHs

The title for legally blonde are done in quite a similar way to how we would like our titles to look. Legally blonde is also a chick flick so we know that the style of titles works with the genre as it has been used before.  The titles are superimposed over the moving images of girls getting ready and doing their everyday things. It is similar to how we would like to start ours in the sense that the opening of the film goes straight into the titles and song. The titles are done in a handwritten style but because they are pink and done very girly with things like hearts above the I's it looks very much like it is targeted more towards woman. The titles in pink works well as the opening is very bright sunlight and  pink is a recurring color in  things like the girls clothes and nail varnish.

The title starts with the production company and then ' a Marc Platt production' before the main title of the film which comes up within the first 15 seconds of the film. It is then followed by a long list of actors coming up with a few second intervals between each name. This works well with this film as it gave time to set the scene of the girls getting ready and giving the impression of the stereotyped blonde girl which the rest of the film is based around.

These titles work well for this film but would defiantly not work for any other genre than romcom chickflicks as they are very light hearted and girly.

Research on titles - sherlock holmes

http://www.artofthetitle.com/2010/01/21/sherlock-holmes/

The titles for sherlock holmes are done coming up in a  font that is in the style of old fashioned hand writing. whenever there is a specific title the image freezed and the writing comes up as the frozen image turns into an old fashion style of a drawing. I really like this use of title as it flows very smoothly and doesnt go on for too long. However i dont think this style of title would work well for a modern romcom as it looks very old fashioned and serious and creates more of an adventure atmosphere other than a light hearted one that we would want. Also these titles do not come straight away into the film there are a few scenes that are not too long first to set the scene of the film and gain audience attention.

The titles start of with introducing people who went into making the film such as producers/director/editor etc. it isnt until 1 minute  into the titles that the main actor is introduced. The title of the film them appears at 1.5 which is followed by the co actors names. The reasoning for having the main actors name first would have been for publicity for the actor.

The sequence and look of the titles works well for this style of mystery/detective type film as it all gives a very busy, fast paced impression which fits with the genre.

The reason i chose to look at Sherlock holmes for titles is because the film is targeted for a slightly younger age and we are targeting our film for a younger age.
